Path to Massage Therapy
Planning to become a Physician’s Assistant, I diverted from that path while dealing with back pain from scoliosis. I found so much relief from a wonderful massage therapist and Yoga that I began to see how effective more natural treatments could be for certain ailments. At the same time, I was working with people who had Traumatic Brain Injuries. Many of them had permanently seized up muscles, and I was amazed to see what even ten minutes of massage could do for them both physically and mentally. Convinced of the healing power of massage and wanting to share it with other people, I moved to Tucson to become a Massage Therapist.
Training
I completed a 1000 hour massage program at the Desert Institute of the Healing Arts in Tucson, AZ in 2003, where I studied massage with a therapeutic emphasis. I trained at a rehabilitation facility, with patients that had cancer, and with the University of Arizona softball team. Since then I have worked in several environments including Peaceful Spirit in Tucson, The Grand Traverse Resort in Michigan, CoreBalance Physical Therapy, and in my own private practice. I recently moved back to Arizona from North Carolina where I was a high school science teacher for three years. In addition to being a Licensed Massage Therapist, I hold a Bachelors of Science in Health Sciences and Psychology from Grand Valley State University.
Over the years, I have taken many additional training classes to further my education and understanding of bodywork. I have completed classes in Perinatal massage, Reflexology, Aromatherapy, Myofascial Work, and Ace Cupping Massage.
Other Interests and Joys
When I am not doing massage therapy, I am usually busy chasing my two beautiful daughters around. I love outdoor adventures with my family, reading, doing yoga, climbing, or simply relaxing and enjoying this beautiful place where we live.
